When I was a kid, my parents bought us two sheep for the Puyallup Fair. I wasn’t much of a shepherd back then—I spent most of that summer being dragged around the pen. I’m still not much of a shepherd, but I’ve learned a thing or two about wool.
If you’ve ever spent time with old-timer outdoorsmen and women, you’ve probably heard it: Layer up in wool. And for good reason. Wool wicks moisture, insulates even when wet, and—maybe best of all—it’s naturally antimicrobial, so it doesn’t stink up after a few hard days on the trail.
Our new Woolie follows the same trusted pattern as the classic Squak, but it’s built from a next-level fabric blend: 85% Merino wool for breathability and odor resistance, 12% nylon for durability, and 3% spandex for a touch of stretch. At 150 GSM, it’s a bit warmer than a base layer—more of a lightweight mid-layer or sweatshirt—perfect for shoulder seasons or layering up when the temps dip.
Turn your garment inside out, wash gently with cool water and mild detergent. Air-dry when you can, or use low/no heat in the dryer. Skip the bleach, softeners, high heat, or dry cleaning — your gear’s got enough adventure as it is.
You can return any item within 30 days of delivery as long as it’s unused, in original condition, and has the tag still attached.

Stats: 5’5”, 125lb 34B, athletic build. I bought a size Small and it worked great for me. It’s looser in the shoulders and narrower in the hips but that gave me room to move climbing etc and it fit smoothly under my climbing harness and backpack waist strap. The fabric is beautiful, not too thin or too heavy, nice smooth tight knit a great base layer or year round piece. It’s not scratchy at all and washed up beautifully. Definitely grab it if you are on the fence, you won’t be disappointed!
Excited to hear this piece has become a go-to in your outdoor wardrobe! That's awesome the Small worked great for your athletic build, giving you the movement needed for climbing while fitting smoothly under your harness and pack strap. We're glad you love the beautiful fabric—a great, smooth, non-scratchy piece that washes up well!
I tested Squak’s Merino Wool Woolie hoodie and it instantly became a staple in my wardrobe. It is incredibly lightweight but still warm and I would recommend sizing down if you prefer a more fitted base layer. The large front pocket and soft Merino wool made it perfect for a weekend full of adventures.
I packed it for my trip to the Great Smoky Mountains where the weather went from the high sixties one day to below freezing with snow the next. The Woolie handled every bit of it, staying breathable on warm hikes and cozy when the temperatures dropped.
It works well outdoors, while lounging, or while running errands. I even paired it with a vest, jeans, and my Blundstones for a cute everyday outfit. It is a reliable and easy to pack piece that I will keep reaching for.
Stoked to hear that the Woolie instantly became a staple in your wardrobe and that you found it to be incredibly lightweight but still warm! That's awesome it handled the wildly shifting temperatures in the Great Smoky Mountains—staying breathable on warm hikes and cozy when the snow fell.
We love that you also found it perfect for dressing up out on the town with a vest and jeans, proving it truly Works Overtime! Thanks for the sizing advice, too!
I am definitely biased, but for a good reason :) that's my third Squak hoodie and I love them all. The woolie has yet to go see nature with me, but I am sure it will keep me war and cozy. And I like the fact that it is not black black :)
Thank you from across the ocean ;)
Hello Liza!
Excited to hear that the Woolie is your third Squak hoodie—that's the best kind of bias! It's awesome that you love them all and that you appreciate the color being something other than black. We know it will keep you warm and cozy when you take it out into nature!
My husband and I have purchased multiple products from Squak and cannot recommend them enough! We started with the microgrid fleece hoodies last year, and fell in love! When they released the merino wool hoodie, we immediately purchased to try it out! We loved it so much, that we each purchased the second color option! There is rarely a hike we go on that we don’t talk about Squak gear! If it were up to us, Squak would be in every outdoor retail store!
Hey there!
Thrilled to hear you and your husband LOVE your Squak gear so much and that it's a constant topic on your hikes! It's awesome that the microgrid fleece got you hooked and that you loved the merino wool hoodie so much you bought both colors! Thank you for the incredible support and kind words—it truly means a lot to us!
Love this merino wool top! Fits good and the fabric is soft as compared to another brand's top that feels so uncomfortable. Another win from the Squak!
Wonderful to hear Sunny! We're excited you love this merino wool top! That's awesome the fit is good and the fabric feels soft, especially compared to others. Always a win when the gear feels great on the skin!
