When I was a kid, my parents bought us two sheep for the Puyallup Fair. I wasn’t much of a shepherd back then—I spent most of that summer being dragged around the pen. I’m still not much of a shepherd, but I’ve learned a thing or two about wool.
If you’ve ever spent time with old-timer outdoorsmen and women, you’ve probably heard it: Layer up in wool. And for good reason. Wool wicks moisture, insulates even when wet, and—maybe best of all—it’s naturally antimicrobial, so it doesn’t stink up after a few hard days on the trail.
Our new Woolie follows the same trusted pattern as the classic Squak, but it’s built from a next-level fabric blend: 85% Merino wool for breathability and odor resistance, 12% nylon for durability, and 3% spandex for a touch of stretch. At 150 GSM, it’s a bit warmer than a base layer—more of a lightweight mid-layer or sweatshirt—perfect for shoulder seasons or layering up when the temps dip.
Turn your garment inside out, wash gently with cool water and mild detergent. Air-dry when you can, or use low/no heat in the dryer. Skip the bleach, softeners, high heat, or dry cleaning — your gear’s got enough adventure as it is.
You can return any item within 30 days of delivery as long as it’s unused, in original condition, and has the tag still attached.

It's not often you find a clothing item that you both want and can wear day in an day out.
Florida has quite a temperature swing this time a year, and this hoody is the perfect layer to have around. When you leave in the morning and when the sun goes down, it literally, somehow does keep you warm when it's cold, and keeps you cool when it's hot.
If you're doing something active the hoody is breathable and I never welt stuffy while hiking.
And best of all, the comfort. It is so soft and comfy that literally, it's the one thing I for sure want to wear just because it feels so good on my skin.
Do yourself a favor and get yourself one.
Days in the office, light walks with the dogs, climbing or hiking in the mountain or being out on a boat. Any activity is perfect for this hoody, and this hoody is perfect for any activity.
Thrilled to hear you've found an item for Everyday wear with unmatched comfort, period! That's awesome it's the perfect layer for Florida's temperature swings, somehow keeping you warm when it's cold and cool when it's hot. We're thrilled it's breathable for active use and feels so incredibly soft on your skin. It sounds like this hoody truly is perfect for any activity!
Purchased for my husband. Loves the fit and fabric. Would love more colors. He is excited to wear for skiing.
Stoked that your husband loves the fit and fabric Donna! We appreciate the feedback on wanting more colors and are excited he's planning to wear it for skiing. We hope he enjoys those runs!
First Impression: soft merino wool material touch out of the bag. Really comfortable feel while wearing on its own or layered with a t-shirt. I've worn this bombing around the house, hiking, driving, hanging out at the sports fields, etc. By itself or layered with a light down jacket, it has taken the edge off the chill as temps drop here in the northeast.
I was expecting the fit to be similar to the Classic Squak Grid Fleece, but its a bit looser fit. I'm about 5'6'' (and a half) and about 180 medium/athletic build. The large classic fits more like a medium, but the Woolie, in my experience, fits true-to-size.
I have found that the Chelan Teal color has brightened my usual grayscale wardrobe. I've stepped out of my comfort zone with this, but in a good way.
Lastly, the icing on the cake was finding a hand-written thank you message from the Squak team in my order. Thank you for doing that and timely shipping!
Hoping to provide a long-term update with experiences from this upcoming New England winter. Thanks Squak!
Stoked to hear you think the Men's Woolie is Awesome and that your first impression was that soft merino touch! That's fantastic it's become so versatile for you—worn everywhere from hiking to the sports fields—and effectively takes the chill off in the Northeast.
We appreciate the detailed note on the fit; it's super helpful to know that the Woolie fits true-to-size compared to the Classic Squak. And we're glad the Chelan Teal brightened up your wardrobe! Thanks for noticing the personal note and timely shipping—that means a lot to us! We look forward to hearing your long-term winter update!
The fit, feel, quality, versatility, and style of this layer is amazing. It's been perfect for everything from fall hikes to my go-to cafe/going-out/errands layer, to colder-temps running (and soon, skiing). One of my favorite long-sleeves and I find myself reaching for it over other layers on a daily basis.
Hey Ely! Thrilled to hear that this layer inspired you to write a review—that says a lot! It sounds like you found a real winner! That's awesome the fit, feel, quality, versatility, and style are all hitting the mark, making it your daily go-to for everything from fall hikes to running and café trips.
Love the hood, and the weight and feel of the woolie. Only complaint/change I would say is the sleeves get tighter around the wrists but are still loose around the arm so it creates kind of a weird feeling, maybe I just needed to size down so the arms would be tighter. Another thing that would make it even better is adding an extra layer of fabric down by the arm holes that you can pull over the arm holes to cover your hands and keep even warmer, or you can just leave the fabric where it is and it wears like normal. I'm not sure if I explained that very well, but a good example is a lot of newborn onesies will have the same feature, it covers their hands so they can't scratch themselves.
Hey Michael! Stoked to hear you love the hood, weight, and feel of the Woolie!
We really appreciate you sharing that feedback about the sleeves—it's super helpful to know about how they feel around the wrists and arms. That's also a fantastic suggestion about adding an extra layer of fabric or a kind of mitten flap to cover the hands! That's a clever idea for extra warmth and we'll certainly take it into consideration.
